Henrietta Lacks was a great woman she has a medicine named after her called the HeLa medicine. When she died her cells were still living that is what makes her so interesting it's amazing right well that's not all. Well first they took out her cells for research and then they found that they were alive just think about it she helped probably thousands of people and more with her cells she is amazing. Well okay we know she's awesome but let's talk about her life.
Henrietta Lacks was born on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia. She changed her name to Henrietta. When Henrietta's mom died in 1924 she was sent to live with her grandma. They lived in a cabin and were slaves she shared a room with her first cousin David. In 1935 her and her first cousin David gave birth to a son and daughter. Her husband David and her moved to Maryland in the urge of there cousins. In Maryland they had three more children Joseph, Deborha, and David Junior. In 1951 Mrs. Lacks went to the hospital because she said she was feeling abnormal pain and bleeding in her abdomen. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer and died at age 31 October 4, 1951.
The Lacks family soon found out about the HeLa medicine line and were tested in 1970. The BBC gave an award winning documentary on Lacks and HeLa. Rebecca Skloot later wrote a popular book called The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Oprah Winfrey said that she had plans for a screen play on the book.
