When Henrietta Lacks died from cervical cancer Dr. George Otto Gey found out that her cells were still alive. Unlike other cells hers lasted a few days. Scientist cloned the cells in 1951 as the demand grew. Dr. Gey named the HeLa line after Henrietta Lacks . Ten thousand patients that involve with the HeLa cells have been registered. Researchers use the HeLa cells for studying diseases and to test human sensitivity to new products and substances. Henrietta is known for her HeLa cells she died on October 4, 1951.
